Doreen Marchionni has worked in newspapers for 17 years, mostly as a manager and most recently at The Seattle Times. She received her master’s in American Studies at Columbia University in the mid-90s before returning to the newsroom. Still looking to scratch an academic itch, she pursued a Ph.D. over the past three years at Missouri School of Journalism, concentrating on new-media practices and innovations. She completed her dissertation on “Journalism as a Conversation” in mid-May and is looking for ways to get her research out to newsrooms.
